New deal for Russia in emerging light satellite launch market

Rosvooruzheniye and Germany's OHB System sign launch agreement for scientific satellite devices

Published: 8/18/1999

The development of the light satellite launch market has led to new cooperation between Germany and Russia (www.concise.org, April 21st 1999). According to a report by Interfax, Russia's state-owned arms exporting agency, Rosvooruzheniye, and Germany's Bremen-based OHB-System have signed an agreement under which Russian strategic missile troops will launch the scientific CHAMP, META and BIRD devices for OHB-System from Russia's Plesetsk cosmodrome in 2000. It is claimed that this development follows the successful launching of the ABRIXAS and MegSat satellites, for OHB-System, from the Kapustin Yar facility in April 1999.
