Airline employees to go on strike

After a symbolic one day strike in July Vnukovo Airlines employees vote for full strike from 15th August
Published:
8/5/1999
According to reports in Segodnya on 4th August 1999, the flight and maintenance personnel of Vnukovo Airlines plan to go on strike again after their symbolic one-hour strike on the 30th July.
The main demands of the trade union are that back salaries are paid and the airline fulfills the employee's contracts. The union is asking that the airline fulfills conditions such as the requirement "to provide work outfits, observe the laws covering labour safety”, and more unusually “give milk to those employees working in hazardous work conditions" The latter condition Concise assumes is hangover from older labour practices embodied in Soviet law, but it is surprising that the trade unions are still seeking to uphold it.
As promised after the recent one-hour strike, the company employees are saying that they will fight to achieve their demands. The strike committee following a meeting of members took a decision to start the "without time-limit strike" in the morning of August 15.
Given the current condition of Vnukovo Airlines a prolonged strike can only cause further deterioration in Russia's number two airline's health.
