Sibir rebounds from Vnukovo failure with deal with Uzbekistan Airways

Sibir and Uzbekiston Havo Yullary (Uzbekistan Airways) have started selling tickets for each other's flights as of 26th July. According to the Sibir press secretary Mikhail Koshman under the agreement, each operator will take responsibility for its part of the route including cancellation, flight delays, or a replacement of the type of an aircraft. By selling each other's tickets, the two companies have considerably enlarged the destinations available to passengers. The two airlines now offer flights to 40 destinations within Russia and the CIS and 20 foreign destinations. This alliance, says Director General of Sibir Vladislav Filev, is primarily aimed at increasing the quality of passenger service. It is also another aggressive move on the part of the rapidly expanding Siberian carrier that has only recently withdrawn from possible merger with Vnukovo Airlines. Uzbekiston Havo Yullary's fleet consists of 100 aircraft including a number of B-757s, B-767s and Avro RJ85s. The foreign aircraft reportedly carrying 70% of UHY's passengers on international routes.
