SAS out of bidding for Polish airline

SAS withdraws from LOT privatisation with no explanation

Published: 7/29/1999

Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) has taken itself out of the bidding for a stake in the LOT Polish Airlines, due to be privatised soon. "We have decided to withdraw our letter of interest regarding a bid for a stake in LOT," a spokesman at SAS headquarters in Stockholm told Reuters on July 23. In June SAS and its Star Alliance partner Lufthansa submitted a letter of interest in LOT to the Polish Transportation Ministry. Unofficially, British Airways and Swiss Air also submitted offers. At the end of August the Polish government is due to announce which airline it has selected as joint owner of LOT, of which an initial 10 percent is expected to be sold.
