Domodedovo gets major upgrade plan

East Line emerges at the head of a major upgrading of Domodedovo Airport

Published: 7/28/1999

According to reports of meeting at the end of June between the Government of the Moscow region and the Federal Aviation Service at Domodedovo Airport, the East Line Group is to invest $152.6 m in the development of the airport as part of a program of improvements through to 2003. According to the press-centre of the Moscow region, about $286million will be spent on the complete program and East Line is the major provider of funding adding to the $140m they have already reportedly invested over the last four years. The investment objective will be to increase the capacity of the airport three fold through the renovation of the airport and the establishment of a high speed rail link between the airport and Moscow's Paveletsky station. The program will involve the renovation of the airport's railway terminal and the road to the airport by the end of 2001, with the renovation of the airport to be completed by 2003. After the investment program Domodedovo is expected in the future to handle 70% of international cargo traffic through Moscow, up to 50% of passengers on Russian internal routes and 30% of passengers heading for CIS countries via Moscow. The Russian government during July will review the program.
