1200 agricutural aircraft required for Russia

MAPO discuss growth market for their agricultural ultralight the Aviatika-890

Published: 5/27/1999

According to Mr Oleg Chukantsev, Deputy Director General of MAPO, the results of marketing research conducted by the Application of Aviation in the National Economy show that Russia needs at least 1,200 agricultural planes of the Aviatika-890 type. The Aviatika-890, which is manufactured by MAPO, is a one and two seat ultralight multi purpose aircraft, with an agricultural variant, known as the ‘Farmer". This is capable of carrying 60 kgs of agricultural chemicals and first flew in 1991. Mr Chukantsev added that, in 1998, only 15 aircraft of the A-890 type were sold, including five agricultural planes. Demand for this type of aircraft is expected to grow in the near future, so enabling MAPO to produce up to 100 such aircraft per year. The aircraft is equipped with the French Rotex-912 engine and is priced at around $40,000. Its market is estimated at $50 million. The aircraft, which is the only one in its class among Russian agricultural planes, is intended for the aerial application of fertilisers and toxic chemicals. With a take-off weight of 455 kilograms, the aircraft can carry 75 litres of fertiliser. Its flight time is up to five hours at a speed of 100km/h. The A-890 was successfully tested in Krasnodar Territory and Belgorod and Kurgan Regions.
