According to ITAR-Tass, the Kazan helicopter plant has supplied two Mi-17-1B multipurpose helicopters to Malaysia.
Mr Valeriy Pashko, Head of the plant"s marketing department, would neither comment on where Kazan has been selling its products over the past year, nor confirm how many have been sold. According to Tass"s sources, Mi-17-1Bs and their civilian modification, the Mi-172, have been sold to Uganda, Vietnam and Laos during the last twelve months.
For some of the other helicopter plants, business remains tough and all orders are processed. Despite an order, announced recently, of Mi-34s for Nigeria, the Progress plant in Primorsky, has signed a contract for the supply of a large batch of four-foot containers to Japan.
According to company"s management, a total of 200 containers will be exported in 1999.
