Cargo operators hold conference

Published: 11/21/1997

The participants also agreed to work together on the preparation of offers to the State Duma, working on the legislative basis for the proposed state aircraft-leasing company. Moreover, the conference found it necessary to demand from state establishments a reduction in tax on real estate. In Russia, civil aircraft are subjects for this tax, which is now 2%. This figure is considered by the Association "too high, but bearable" for aviation, but the expected 3% rise "will mean death to air companies". The conference decided to invite "mixed" (i.e. passenger and cargo) operators to join the Association. An interest in this offer is being expressed by Aeroflot and other "mixed" companies, with a considerable cargo sector. Russian cargo carriers are also trying to join forces with the TIACA international association in order to "globalise" the cargo-conveyance business, which is becoming an important link within the world's economies.(AL1197.3) (VK)
