North Korea to purchase Tupolevs

Published: 11/21/1997

North Korea is set to purchase new Tupolev airliners to replace old aircraft, Tupolev director Igor Shevchuk tells ConCISe. A presentation of the Tu-204-100 plane is expected to be made to North Korea between 2-5 December. The avionics and engines are made in Russia and were certificated in 1995, according to Shevchuk. The improved Tu-204-100 will account for 9% of all Tu-204 purchases before the year 2000, experts estimate.(IN1197.8) (VZ)
