The increasing strength of the Russian airline sector may be starting to filter through to airline employees, with the announcement by Krasnoyarsk Airlines (KrasAir) that, as of 1st October, it has raised it average salary by 8% to $153 a month.
Svetlana Volodina, spokesperson for the company, says the rise reflects the airline's improved performance and represents the second salary increase this year, following a 10% hike in May 2001. For the employees, however, the gains in real terms remain small, with inflation running on annualised basis at about 19%.
Volodina comments that the increases are part of an overall programme of incentives for employees, designed to improve the airline's performance. KrasAir has also decided to pay overtime for work at weekends and during holidays.
