On 21st September, an Aeroflot Il-86, en route from Moscow, made an emergency landing at Dubai, UAE with 307 passengers and 14 crew members on board.
The emergency landing was the indication of a system failure to fully retract the landing gear and, during the landing, one of the aircraft's right engines caught fire, resulting in an emergency evacuation of passengers and crew.
An investigation is currently underway, but reports from Dubai say that the suggested cause of the crash was a failure to deploy the landing gear, so causing the engine nacelle to come in contact with the ground. When the aircraft was lifted after the crash, the undercarriage was found still to be in the wheel bays, with no indications of any damage to, or collapse of, the gear.
