Mi-2 upgrade programme in the offing

Rosvertol and MVZ to collaborate on two-year Mi-2A project (158 words)

Published: 9/17/2001

Boris Slyusar, General Director of Rosvertol, has announced that the company is collaborating with MVZ on the development of the programme to upgrade the Mi-2, of which there are thought to be 500 still in service, but little sign currently of a viable replacement or, for that matter, the kind of funding needed to buy new aircraft. Slyusar said that the upgrade programme will involve the replacement of the engines and avionics and is expected to take place over the next two years, with an anticipated $700,000 payback after 50-60 upgrades of the helicopter, designated the Mi-2A. Rosvertol has also recently received an order for the upgrade of the 12 Mi-35s to Mi-35M standard for an undisclosed foreign customer, with four helicopters to be delivered in 1Q02 and the balance by the end of 2002, at a reported cost of $0.5m per aircraft.
