Bulgaria to upgrade MiGs
|
Acquisition route too expensive (82 words)
Published:
9/3/2001
Following reports in March 2001, Bulgaria has decided to upgrade some of its fleet of 18 MiG-29s. Four to six aircraft will be upgraded to NATO standards rather than acquiring used US F-16s. The acquisition option was examined in January by the Bulgarians, but over passed in favour of the upgrade of its existing aircraft on the basis of cost. According to the Bulgarian Air Force, only three of its MiG-29s are currently operational.
