KrasAir's transit strategy pays off

Passenger figures encouraging for 7mo01 (226 words)

Published: 8/16/2001

Mikhail Pogozhikh, spokesman for Krasnoyarsk Airlines (KrasAir), has reported that, in January - July 2001, Krasnoyarsk Airport, operated by KrasAir, served 101,600 passengers, or almost 70% more than in the same period of 2000. The impressive results were attributed to KrasAir's summer schedule of 2001, introduced on 18th May 2001, which actively used Krasnoyarsk Airport as a transit hub. The company organised its summer schedule in order to encourage its passengers to travel from West to East, East to West, to Central Russia and the Russian south via Krasnoyarsk. In addition, the operation of new routes, between January - July also contributed to growth. According to preliminary data, the company carried 521,800 passengers in January - July 2001, or 30% more than in 7mo2000. For the first six months of 2001 the company recorded a 22.5% growth in passengers carried, totaling 369,108 passengers. This is in keeping with seasonal trends. In January - July, the company performed 2,082 return flights, while in January - June the it performed 1531 return flights. The new strategy resulted in KrasAir's aircraft spending 23,631 hours in the air in 7mo2000, or 9% more than in the same period of last year. The company estimates that its aircraft will spend more than 42,000 hours in the air in 2001, or 16.7% more compared with 2000.
