KrasAir falters as fuel arrives late

Passengers experience long delays (154 words)

Published: 8/6/2001

Mikhail Pogozhikh, spokesperson for Krasnoyarsk Airlines (KrasAir), has reported that, on 3rd August, the airline was forced to delay several flights, owing to problems with fuel supplies at Krasnoyarsk Airport. According to Pogozhikh, the fuel deliveries were delayed by repairs to the railway that supplies the airport. As a result, among its early departures, only the Krasnoyarsk - Moscow flight was fuelled, although some KrasAir flights from Abakan Airport went ahead. The company said that it expected to resolve the problem by 4pm local time and undertook to restart the schedule once the fuel was available and to clear delayed flights by 9pm local time. Passengers, however, still had a long wait in the transit hall of Krasnoyarsk Airport. The company has yet to explain why it had so little in the way of fuel reserves that a single delay appeared to ground the fleet.
