Russian airline ceases wet leasing in Pakistan

Complaints of non payment (100 words)

Published: 1/12/2001

The management of OAO Chelyabinsk Aviation Enterprise (ChAP) has decided to withdraw from wet lease operations in Pakistan. According to Serguey Yashin, General Director of ChAP, non-payment is the reason for the withdrawal - a problem that is shared by a number of other Russian and Baltic operators. The company has already prepared an official letter to the government of Pakistan, in which it complains about non-payment and suggests that the government's policy towards Russian airlines ought to be reviewed. If the situation were to improve, however, he did not exclude the possibility of a return to the market.
