Russian airports to be renovated

Published: 8/21/1998

Figures have recently been made public by the Federal Aviation Service of Russian Federation (FAS RF) on its plans for its airports. Between 1997-2000 it is planned to build or reconstruct 19 runways, replace or renovate equipment at 30 airports, and install additional security systems at 75 airports. Also planned is a reconstruction of the air terminals with a totalled capacity of 8500 passengers per hour, oil and petrol storage facilities with a capacity of 56,000 cu.m per hour and aircraft maintenance facilities with a total indoor area of 100,000 sq.m. FAS RF guiding documents call for the enlargement of cargo terminals at Moscow's Domodedovo airport and at Chita, as well as the completion of new airport complexes in Omsk and Syktyvkar. FAS RF is also developing what would be called "Federal programme Airports of Russia up to the year 2010". Among other things, it would reorganise 34 state-owned airports with federal status.
