An-26s to be replaced

Published: 8/21/1998

The under-secretary of state and first vice minister in the Polish Ministry of National Defence,Romuald Szeremietiew, recently visited Spain where he was discussing a wide range of subjects including collaboration between Polish and Spanish companies. CASA has offered its CN-235 as a replacement for obsolescent An-26s, which are in service with the 13th Transport Regiment. The Spanish have also presented intentions to ensure the buy-back of Swidniks W-3 Sokol multipurpose helicopters. The collaboration could be developed even further if Poland selects F-18s for its Air Force. The Spanish proposal is very similar to the agreed conditions of the purchase of 12 CN-235s a few years ago. At that time the buy-back was to be 12 Sokols, and Okecie and Swidnik were to become suppliers for CASA.(IN898.8) (MM)
