Russia and China ready for closer co-operation
|
Published:
8/21/1998
The Russian aviation industry is prepared for closer co-operation with China's aviation industry, according to the head of the board of directors of the Aviaprom stock company, Yuri Bardin. Bardin was commenting on the Russian stance ahead of the meeting of the leaders of the two countries scheduled for September. He said the Tupolev aviation research and technological complex had sent an invitation to Chinese aviation specialists to visit it and discuss further co-operation in the development of the Tu-330 airliner.
Tupolev's general director, Vassily Alexandrov said, "The Chinese side has accepted the invitation and Tupolev officials are ready to discuss with Chinese colleagues all matters of interest to them." The Russian specialists are also willing to discuss with Chinese counterparts "questions relating to the development of a 100-seat airliner which is in demand both in Russia and on the world market." The prototype of such a plane - the Tu-334 - has already been built in Russia and it is expected to make its maiden flight in the near future. The Tu-334 is designed as the first of a family of aircraft to be equipped fully with either Russian-made engines and avionics or with foreign systems.
Vassily Alexandrov comments that the Russian company has extensive experience of co-operation with China in an earlier generation of aircraft. "This experience can be used effectively for the benefit of both countries in the development of aircraft for the 21st century," Alexandrov stressed.(IN898.3) (VZ)
