Approval for PGPV-50 Parachute System

Parachute maker has the product, but no customer

Published: 3/28/2000

Mr Victor Lyalin, the Director of the Research Institute of Parachute Making has announced that tests have been completed on the new cargo parachute system, PGPV-50, which will be able to handle the descent of 3 and 6.5 tonnes of cargo on a landing site 60m by 200m. The new system requires the dropping aircraft to fly between 240-280 km/h and then drop the cargo from 3 to 7m . Although the Institute reports the system is ready for mass production, the Ministry of Defence has not yet placed any orders for it due to financial constraints.
