Ka-32 crashes on test flight

Crew survives, but aircraft written off

Published: 3/22/2000

On 21st March, a Ka-32 twin turbine multirole helicopter, making a test flight from the Kumertau aviation plant, crashed in Bashkirskaya. Unconfirmed reports attribute the cause to engine problems. It is unclear which variant the helicopter was, but the plant is currently fulfilling a South Korean order for 50 Ka-32s. Reports say that the aircraft crashed from an altitude of 500m, although the two man crew survived the crash and were taken to hospital suffering from concussion. The helicopter, not surprisingly, is reported to be beyond repair.
