ARIA's first Boeing 777 enters service

Published: 7/24/1998

The first Boeing 777-200 purchased by ARIA has begun flights to the US and UK, making five flights a week to New York and two flights to London. Daily utilisation is approximately 15 hours, but this is scheduled to increase. The Russian economics minister, Yakov Urinson, said that the Russian government was planning to issue a decree with the aim of protecting the Russian aviation industry, and allowing Russian air carriers to buy foreign airliners at beneficial customs duty rates, provided they acquire Russian-made aircraft at the same time. Urinson said that a specific investment agreement will be signed simultaneously with every individual aircraft purchase contract. The agreement will stipulate that investments shall be made in the development of the Russian aviation industry, every time a foreign plane is purchased. (IN798.3) (VZ)
