Number two Ka-226 has problems in Orenburg
Published:
2/18/2000
The test flight for the second Ka-226 prototype built by KAPP and rolled out in May 1998 has been cancelled ‘indefinitely", according to the Strela facility in Orenburg, where the helicopter will be serially produced, although their have been reports that some aircraft may be produced at KAPP in Kumertau.
According to Kamov there are currently two flight prototypes of the Ka-226, the first flying in September of 1997. The Strela machine was the second and according to sources close to the programme failed to fly due to component failure during pre-flight checks. The component supplier remains unnamed as does the component, but flights are expected to recommence when a new unit is delivered, suggesting that the component was a fairly major assembly.
