Airline business tough in Tajikistan

Tajikstan records 25% fall in domestic air traffic in 1999

Published: 2/15/2000

Tajikstan Airline"s General Director, Tashpulat Khamidov, has reported that, in 1999, the airline had suffered a 25% fall in traffic and had been forced to close some of its routes due to lack of demand, most notably Dushanbe to Kulyab, Garm and Rushan. Internationally, however, business has been better and, in August 1999, the airline opened a scheduled service to Chorlu in Turkey and Munich. In February 2000, it started operating a flight from Dunshanbe-Pendzhikent, using an Mi-8 and plans a similar route to Iny.
