Belavia examines new routes

Belavia focusses on short to medium hauls routes and leaves long haul to partners

Published: 2/14/2000

Belavia is considering opening additional scheduled routes according to the airline's General Director, Anatoly Gusarov. These will include connections between Minsk and Athens, Budapest, and Tallinn. The airline could be ready to launch the new flights by the end of this year. Additional flights will be added to the Minsk-Moscow route in April and May, in expectation of traffic growth as a result of the recent agreement between Belavia and Aeroflot. At present, there are three daily flights: two from Minsk-2 by a Tu-134 and one from Minsk-1 by an An-24. The new flights will use Tu-134s, according to the airlines. Currently, Belavia makes regular international flights out of Minsk-2 to Russia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Armenia, Sweden, UK, Germany, Israel, Ireland, Italy, Cyprus, Turkey, Czech Republic, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Poland. It is carrying passengers to connect with Air Lingus and with Uzbek airline, Uzbekiston Havo Yullary, to Delhi. According to Gusarov, Belavia's strategy is to focus on small and medium-haul routes, leaving longer routes to those airlines with whom it has cooperation agreements.
