Vietnam rumoured to be looking for Su-27 upgrades

Published: 2/7/2000

Reports in Itar-TASS suggest that, in addition to the sale of 12 Su-30Ks to Vietnam last year, Sukhoi has agreed to modernise 12 Su-27Ks and Su-27Bs, delivered to Vietnam between 1995 and 1998. The objective is to improve the aircraft's multi-role capability, so allowing the delivery of precision weapons and upgrade their ability to track aerial targets. This suggests the adoption of some of the components recently installed in the Su-30K upgrade. The value and timing of the contract was not revealed. When contacted directly, Sukhoi refused to comment on the subject, except to confirm that nothing had yet been signed, indicating that such reports may prove premature.
