Karklin rumoured to be on verge of departure at Aviakor
Published:
2/2/2000
Reports are emerging which suggest that Andrey Karklin, General Director of Aviakor, may leave the company. Karklin was appointed in April 1999 by Sibirsky Aluminium Group when it took control of the plant by securing 46% of the outstanding shares in Aviakorprom, which included the Aviakor facility.
At the time of the acquisition, Siberian Aluminium forced out the incumbent General Director, Lev Khasis, and undertook to invest $40m in the plant. It appears that the deteriorating condition of the plant"s customers have left many of the investment plans unfulfilled and, together with unconfirmed reports of tension between Karklin and Oleg Derisopaska, General Director of Siberian Aluminium, things may have come to a head.
The rumour mill on the future of the plant has moved into overdrive, even suggesting that Siberian Aluminium may dispose of the company, although no potential buyer is mentioned. Less likely still is the report that Khasis who, in last April, disappeared back to Moscow in a rage, may be re-appointed.
