USAF to use Slovakian training facilities

US indirectly provides funding for Slovak Air Force pilots

Published: 1/27/2000

In an effort to raise funds for the training of its Su-22 and Su-25 pilots, whose flying time has fallen to as low as 25 hours a year, the Slovak Republic is reported to be selling training space to the US Air Force for the training of F-16 and A-10 pilots, based in Germany. The USAF pilots will operate out of the Mulachy air base, in Western Slovakia, when the exercises take place over two weeks later this year. According to the Mulachy base commander, the Americans will also be upgrading the infrastructure at the Kuchyna firing range, as part of the deal.
