Tyumenaviatrans wins UN tender for helicopter support in West Africa
Published:
1/27/2000
In December 1999, Tyumenaviatrans (TAT) announced that it had expanded its United Nations business by winning another tender for the operation of 2 Mil-26s in Sierra Leone.
The airline has had a number of UN contracts and the hard currency contract offers considerable benefit to one of the world"s largest helicopter operators. To fulfil the contract, which began in January 2000, the airline acquired two new Mil-26s, one of which is already in operation in support of the UN in West Africa.
On 24th December 1999, TAT's shares started trading in the securities section of MICEX, in addition to trading on the main Russian securities system, the RTS. In 1998, TAT also issued an unlisted ADR in the USA, through the Bank of New York. However, as with all but the largest of the Russian shares, TAT shares remain illiquid.
