MAKS reports 27 crashes in the CIS in 1999 with only single crash by aircraft on scheduled route
Published:
1/13/2000
According to MAK, in 1999, a total of 27 aviation accidents occurred in the CIS . These include ten crashes, in which 55 people died. In total 22 aircraft were written off, owing to aviation accidents.
The statistics show that a single crash occurred on regular passenger routes during the year. This was the incident involving a Yak-40, which crashed in Uzbekistan, killing two people. Four aviation incidents occurred on non-scheduled flights, in which no one was hurt. Light aircraft and helicopters accounted for the remaining incidents, including eight crashes.
The figures do however; seem remarkably good, particularly for helicopters and light aircraft often operating in the most inhospitable of environments.
