Ka-60 moves onto certification

Ka-60 completes initial flights, but still looks for customers after certification

Published: 1/4/2000

Veniamin Kasyannikov, Deputy General Designer of Kamov has announced that on the 24th December 1999, the Ka-60 Kataska military transport helicopter made the last flight of its one year flight development programme. Planned to be serially produced at Ulan-Ude, the helicopterwas developed with the involvement of the Russian MoD and the Ministry of Economics. It was, however, first intended to fly in 1993 and it still has only a ‘long term" commitment from the Russian Army, with interest from the Ministries of Emergency Situations and Interior. The programme is therefore, as with so many military programmes, short of the financing required for gaining the Russian AP-29 and US FAR-29 certification. A programme to develop the Ka-60 and its civil variant, the Ka-62 as the Ka-64 Sky Horse, in conjunction with Augusta of Italy collapsed due to Kamov"s inability to find financing for its proportion of the programme.
