Krasair volumes flourish in the first ten months

Mixed indicators from the 10 month figures for Krasair and Tyumenaviatrans

Published: 1/4/2000

The Association of Air Transport Operators (AATO) has reported the 1999 10 month operating results for Krasnoyarsk Airlines (KrasAir) and Tyumenaviatrans. KrasAir traffic increased by 29.3% on the first ten months of 1998, to 677,300 passengers, with domestic routes growing by 31.9% to 601,800 and international routes carrying 11.7% more passengers. Cargo increased by 36.4% to 16,100 tonnes, with domestic routes carrying 92.5% more traffic at 10,100 tonnes, with volume falling by 9.2% on international cargo. These figures reflect a more than doubling of KrasAir"s routes over the period. The airline, however, kept prices stable during the period, despite fuel price hikes. It claims to have offset the impact by more efficient use of its fleet and higher load factors. The 10-month figures however, do not reveal the effect on the airline"s bottom line. For Tyumenaviatrans, passenger numbers fell by 20.5% over the period, reflecting in part the airline abandoning loss-making short haul intraregional routes, but also generally difficult market conditions in the region.
