Domodedovo carrier extends regular services

East Line continues to grow its German business

Published: 12/28/1999

East Line Group, the largest Russian cargo carrier, has an intent to expand its cargo services to Europe. According to Amirani Kurtanidze, executive director of East Line , the airline maintains services to Khan in Germany and Rimini in Italy, with the latter flown 2-3 times a day. However, East Line has dropped plans to establish An-74 services to Kuhln, because “the terms offered by the German side were found not economically acceptable." East Line now maintains a regular service to Khan, a former air force base, flown three times a week. Kurtanidze said that Khan airport accepts unrestricted cargo flights and was recently included a destination airport for Russian carriers under a Russian/German interstate agreement. East Line and Volga-Dnepr have been given the flag status for regular cargo services to Germany. East Line has been using An-74s, An-12 and Il-76s to Khan and believes to “that until 2005 and even 2010 there will be no restrictions for cargo airplanes flying to specialized cargo airports such as this".
