Aeroflot launches new website

The start of new McKinsey instigated changes at Aeroflot?

Published: 12/24/1999

It seems that the influence of newly employed management consultants McKinsey may be having some impact on Aeroflot"s marketing strategy with the launch of a new Russian website for the airline at www.aeroflot.ru . The site now has up to date news, schedules and even the ability to ask questions of the Aeroflot service or make lost luggage enquiries. It will also be expanded in the near future to offer both route planning using Aeroflot and its partners and to make reservations and buy tickets online. McKinsey"s remit at Aeroflot is to basically to rebuild the business"s commercial activities and according to sources close the project, they consider much of what is there to be poor, but believe, with only the missionary zeal that only McKinsey can muster, the airline can be brought into the ranks of the top international carriers. The task however, may be a little more difficult than they imagine, Aeroflot is still beset with substantial differences of view on its future and its requires significant political skills to achieve even the most basic changes as Valery Okulov has found during his tenure as General Director. The changes are however; essential for the airline to compete longer term and the energetic drive of McKinsey may yet overcome the reluctance of those who do not see commercialism as a high priority for the airline.
