Gzhel on loan in Central Africa

Sokol produced Gzehel looks for customers in Africa

Published: 12/12/1999

As a result of negotiations at a recent exhibition in Cairo, Nizhny Novgorod-based Sokol has reported that it has loaned one of its Myasishchev M-101T Gzhels to Central African Airways for a period of three months, with the proviso that if the aircraft meets the airline"s needs it will buy it. For the plant, the chance of demonstrating the aircraft in the region opens up the potential to sell the aircraft to other African operators, particularly in Egypt. Operators may well be attracted by the price of the 6 seat pressurised multipurpose turboprop, which is estimated by Sokol to be half that of an equivalent aircraft, such as the French Socata TBM-700, which sells for $2.5m.
