Moscow light aircraft producer sees demand rise

Saviat announces doubling of produvtion on back of MoD orders for light transport aircraft

Published: 12/7/1999

According to Vladimir Eger, Chief Designer of SAVIAT (Special Aviation Technologies) based in Moscow, the company will double its production in 1999, owing to significant orders from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) for its light weight aircraft, the three seat E-4. These are reported to account for some 50% of the production of the rhomboid wing light transport aircraft developer, which has its composite material aircraft built by MAPO. The research and development programme on the E-4 is estimated to cost $360,000-$480,000. The cost of an E-4 is around $60,000. Aviation plants in Saratov, Irkutsk and Odessa have expressed interest in producing the E-4 and total demand in Russia is calculated to be between 800 and 1000.
