TAPO aircraft crashes

Il-114 crash at Domodedovo results in the loss of five of crew of seven

It has been reported that an Il-114 crashed around 5am on 5th December at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow, in what were described as bad weather conditions with strong winds. According to reports, just after take-off, the aircraft lurched steeply to the left and crashed 400m from the end of the runway. Only two of the seven crew survived: the 64 year old captain, Vasily Sviridov, who is in a critical condition, and the flight engineer. The aircraft, which was making a charter cargo flight carrying aviation parts from Ilyushin in Moscow to TAPO in Tashkent and was owned by the factory. An investigation including an Uzbek crash team is underway into the causes of the accident.
