Contested airport gets new board member

Sibir's Filov joins the board of Tolmachevo airport in Novosibirsk, re-igniting rumours of purchase

Controversy surrounding the potential sale, in two tranches, of the 50% state holding in Tolmachevo Airport (www.concise.org. 25th August 1999) has been compounded by the rumour that Filov, General Director of Sibir, has been appointed to the airport"s board. It is suggested that Sibir intends to buy the stake, but as yet there has been no confirmation that the auction will take place. The tender was originally planned for October, but this required the approval of the RFFI (Russian Fund of Federal Property). The uncertainty results from the claim that Novosibirsk Region failed to pay the Ministry of Finance for a controlling stake in the airport in summer 1996, leading to the cancellation of the transfer in January 1999.
