Reports of Hapag-Lloyd deals in Georgia appear to be premature
Published:
11/22/1999
German charter operator Hapag-Lloyd is in the process of developing its links with Georgian carrier Airzena, building on its existing links with tourism in the region.
It appears however, despite local press reports of the discussions being completed, according to Hapag-Lloyd they are still in progress, focussing on the contract leasing two Boeing-737-500s.
According to Svobonaya Gruzia, the first aircraft will be delivered next month. HL apparently funded the transportation, accommodation and training of Georgian pilots and engineers in Hanover. It also reported, Reiner Kezelau, chairman of HL, as commenting that further aircraft might be leased to Georgia, so enabling the opening up of new routes.
Hapag-Lloyd spokesperson, Susanne Stunckel, when asked about the press reports relating to the leasing of the aircraft said that discussions had taken and were taking place, but nothing as yet had been signed.
