Newly privatised Balkan Airlines loses its breaks on airport taxes in Bulgaria

According to sources at the Ministry of Transport, Balkan Airlines will start paying full airport taxes for Sofia and other Bulgarian airports from the beginning of September 1999. The national carrier to date has been paying only 30% of the standard airport rates. The Israeli Zeevy Group, which bought the company in July 1999, undertook to pay off all its liabilities, mainly accrued over the last few years. According to Minister of Finance, Muravei Radev, on March 31st 1999, debts amounted to 208 billion leva.
